How to Work With A Model – Everything You Need to Know
How to Work With A Model – Everything You Need to Know
From the planning, to the shooting, to making perfect photos.
Whether you are a photographer wanting to undertake a photo-shoot with a professional model or a photographer wanting to capture a family portrait, the challenges in photographing your model(s) can vary based on the specific circumstances of the shoot and the dynamics between you and your model(s). Overcoming these challenges requires a combination of technical proficiency, interpersonal skills, and creative vision.
Photographing your model involves a combination of technical skills, creativity, and effective communication. Whether you’re working with professional models or friends and family, this event will give you all the knowledge, hints, tips, do’s and don’ts to make the most of your photo-shoot.
From how to give a brief, explain your concept, develop a theme theme to all the things you need to know, and consider – from clothing to concept, from location to lighting. We will also cover TFP (what is it and how does it work) working in collaboration and copyright issues.
This is a full day event, and will cover all the information you need to know when it comes to organising the perfect shoot – no matter who your model(s) are. The event is a mixture of theory and practical and there will be an opportunity to shoot with at least TWO full-time professional models in a studio environment.
Katey Spink – https://www.instagram.com/kateymodel/ will be your expert, key-note speaker at this event, giving her perspective as a full-time, professional model. Katey will be working with at least two models (who you also an opportunity to shoot with also) as she gives an hands on demonstration. There will be a dedicated Q&A session with plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the day from Katey and professional photographers and lighting experts.
The practical sessions will be using a full studio set-up and on location in and around the Chester Crowne Plaza using off camera flash with the help, support, expertise and guidance of a Welshot Team Leader.
Please note: We do ask that you have a good understanding and know how to use your camera as we are unable to cover the basics a this event.

You Will Learn
- How to communication and collaborate with your Model: Effectively communicating your vision and collaborating with your model to achieve the desired result, before and during the photo-shoot.
- How to build a rapport: Establishing a comfortable and positive rapport with your model
- How to choose Your location and environment: The choice of location and dealing with unpredictable environmental factors and the challenges they could pose..
- How to look after your Model’s comfort: Ensuring that your model feels comfortable and respected throughout the shoot is vital.
- How to Pose Your Model: Guiding your model(s) into natural and flattering poses can be difficult, especially if the model is inexperienced or uncomfortable in front of the camera. A good photographer needs to understand body language and be able to direct the model to create visually appealing compositions.
- How to focus on composition: Learning to pay attention to composition rules, such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing will pay dividends. These principles can enhance the overall visual appeal.
