Grab your camera and join us on our Nature Ramble – Photography at the RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve in North Wales, guaranteed to help ease you into Autumn while capturing the beauty from what can only be described as a stunning environment. The Conwy RSPB nature reserve is a wetland on the Conwy estuary, created from material dug out during the construction of the A55 road tunnel. It is now home to a variety of wildlife, and a great place for photographers and their cameras. there is always something to see and photograph, from landscape to macro, flora and fauna and, of course, birds. Your Welshot Masterclass will be learning how to work with light and shutter speeds to capture stunning compositions and movement.

September… Those crisp sunny mornings which beckon us outside to soak up the last moments of summer warmth. For nature, it’s a time of transition, with many birds taking to the flyways and animals stocking up for the colder months.  Want to capture something a little different in your camera – there is a good opportunity to catch the Carneddau ponies grazing nearby which helps to keep the habitat in good condition for the orchids when they arrive.

Spring in Cwmorthin – Walking With Your Camera – A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles

Grab your camera, pull on your walking boots, we’re off on a photographic adventure deep in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales. Photography and a nature ramble – What could be better for those who love nothing more than being outside with their cameras? On this Cwmorthin – Walking With Your Camera – A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles we will be walking from Tanygrisiau up to Cwmorthin, which is where you will find the abandoned slate mines of Rhosydd Quarry.  This is a beautiful walk for a photographer, the scenery is nothing short of stunning and the abandoned quarry ruins and houses are hauntingly striking.  From a distance, the mountains are breath-taking in their quiet beauty, but dig a little deeper and there is a treasure trove of secrets for you and your camera.  A glimpse of a noisy and destructive industrial era long left behind and an eerie peek into the hard life of a quarry miner in the mid nineteenth century.  From landscape, to macro, from capturing the movement of waterfalls to creating abstract images – this day out, walking with your camera will not disappoint.

Welshot Does… The “Longest Day” – A Photographic Adventure in North Wales circumnavigating the Island of Anglesey.  Meeting at Penmon Lighthouse, in time to watch and capture the sunrise over the Llandudno Great Orme in your camera will be the start to our Welshot Does… The Longest Day photographic adventure for 2024.  We will then proceed to visit numerous photographic locations, from South Stack Lighthouse to the historic Telford’s Bridge, from Church Island to Parys Mountain in Amwlch, from LLanddwyn Island to Menai Bridge and Beaumaris – This day will have it all for the outdoor photographer – so why not grab your camera and join us on this 19 hour photography adventure. 

Rivers & Waterfalls – Capturing Movement in Water – Mini Module with Masterclass

Nothing beats walking along a river bank with your camera in Autumn!  Join us in Betws Y Coed for an autumnal photography walk – from macro (and close-up) to mountain lakes and forests of colour, this Welshot Mini Module with Masterclass will have it all for the outdoor photographer.  This will be an easy, relaxed and fun stroll with lots of stops to concentrate on capturing the movement of the flowing River Conwy.  After we’ve captured the trees in all their golden glory, practised long exposures and shot all manner of details that can be found in rock formations we will head up to Plas Y Brenin – National Outdoor Centre to capture the sun going down behind Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) from Llynnau Mymbyr.

While the initial first section of the path is a rocky steep incline it is relatively short and we will be stopping to shoot the waterfalls and slate formations, going very slowly as we make our way up.  Once we reach the first level there is Llyn Cwmorthin (Lake). A beautiful expanse of a water, nestling in a quiet valley. Here there are buildings and slate piles, reeds, water lilies, birds, something for everyone who likes to photograph in the natural environment.

As we will be starting this walk at 12.30 and not finishing until 7.30pm we will be making use of the best light for Landscape Photography.

Our first Walking with Your Camera – A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles for 2023 and it’s a Welshot Mini Module with Masterclass – on this photographic event which takes place in the stunning Bodnant Gardens in North Wales we are going to help you get the best from your camera. In our Welshot masterclass you will learn the photographic technique of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and learn how to compose your images. Walking with your camera is about being in the great outdoors and capturing the surroundings in your camera. From long exposures to abstract water compositions to macro and close-up photography, capturing the flora and fauna, this day has it all for the photographer.
