What Will Happen
Grab your coats, camera and join us on the Welshot Winter Nature Ramble – Photography at the RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve in North Wales, guaranteed to help you blow those Winter cobwebs away while capturing the beauty from what can only be described as a stunning environment. The Conwy RSPB nature reserve is a wetland on the Conwy estuary, created from material dug out during the construction of the A55 road tunnel. It is now home to a variety of wildlife, and a great place for photographers and their cameras. there is always something to see and photograph, from landscape to macro, flora and fauna and, of course, birds. Your Welshot Masterclass will be learning how to work with light and shutter speeds to capture stunning compositions and movement.
If birds are your jam then Winter season is a great place to capture the Starling roosting in the reeds which they can build at any time, usually between January and March – be here an hour before dusk. Water Rails feed in the open (keep an eye on the bird feeders too). Listen for siskins and lesser redpolls in alder trees behind the visitor centre. Following a hard frost or light snow, you may see mammal tracks, including otter and water shrew. Goldeneyes and pochards from Russia also join the more local ducks, such as red-breasted mergansers, on the lagoons.
Whether you are a beginner to photography, a photographer who would like to try a new genre, learn an new technique or skill or a more advanced photographer who wants to build their image portfolio, you will be made welcome and we would love to help you get the best out of your camera.
The Welshot Team will be at hand throughout this session to assist and help you get the best from your camera, so you can leave at the end of this session with memory cards full of beautiful photographs and great memories.

- 10:30 – Meet – Conwy RSPB Welcome, introductions, handouts if applicable
- 10:45 – Nature Ramble / Photography starts with 1:1 and group tuition
- 11:30 – Masterclass – Learning how to work with composition / light / shutter speeds to capture movement
- 13:00 – Lunch – Not included
- 13:30 – Nature Ramble / Photography / 1:1 tuition
- 15:30 – Finish

- Camera and lenses suitable for this event – Telephoto or zoom lens (longer the better)
- Spare (Fully Charged) Batteries and Memory Card
- Tripod / Cable release (your choice – monopod and beanbags are useful in the hide)
